Maybe it's a feature and not a glitch?
On a more serious note, for every 100 people they save, seat belts probably prevent one passenger from escaping death in a fiery wreck. I suspect it's the same with AI augmentation. Still safer with than without, though the 1 in 100 is still a tragedy.
