We have already been here albeit in a different way. Remember a few years ago the issue of using links to other people's websites or images? Or the questions about whether you were allowed to produce lists of websites for any reason? The music industry still has issues with copyright. If someone sells a recorded the buyer installs it on a generally available website then royalties will not be accrued. This will tend to stifle human creativity if AI has access to everything. For me, the real problem with AI will not be the stealing of other people's data but in the way it will be used. We have seen how search engines, for instance, started out as neutral aids but morphed into biased propaganda machines. They may argue that there is not bias but we still suspect that items following one particular narrative will always appear higher up in the list of search results than the disparaged results. AI will go the same way. We will start by trusting it completely then, gradually, its answers will become tailored by interested parties to present and justify particular views.
