Perhaps we are the result of an extraterrestrial AI experiment and we got so out of hand that they had to flood the planet to erase us. Surprise! Some of us survived and here we are attempting to replicate what our creators did because it’s engraved on us. We may have to leave the planet since AI robots will overtake it eventually.
