AGI will eventually decide to kill us all but on the way to that AI will start eliminating jobs which will eliminate most people’s sense of purpose and meaning and well being, which will reduce their self respect, which likely diminish their expectations of the respect of their peers. Businesses will collapse that currently depend on proximity to customers who are will no longer be working jobs near them. More businesses will collapse that support those businesses, and so on… More businesses will collapse because people no longer have money to pay them. Universal Basic Income is neither a solution nor something to aspire to, and there will be nothing people *can* aspire to as good paying jobs with the opportunity to advance and increase wealth will be gone. No “Entry Level Jobs” means there will be no one to move up to the higher level jobs, which will also all be gone right up to and including CEOs since AGI will be able to do all levels of work. Where is the profit motive to develop these technologies if entire populations of people are unable to afford to pay for these technologies? And we don’t even have to worry about AI making super bugs to kill us because if people can’t pay for food > farmers won’t be able to afford to exist > no more food > mass starvation > no more people. So *if* we’re even able to make AGI that is aligned with human needs and values (and this seems increasingly unlikely…) the *only* solution is the elimination of money and capitalism and the embrace of all new non-competitive pastimes. But who among us thinks for a second that KINDNESS and MINDFULNESS will be radically embraced *at all* never mind in a manner timely enough to avert disaster? Meanwhile the United States Government is being run by religious fanatics celebrating a narcissistic octogenarian criminal conman slash dictator wannabe because they believe him to be their useful tool to bring on the apocalypse because the only solution they can fathom is the second coming of Jesus…
