People need to remember this isnt just OpenAI. This also implicates Microsoft who own half of OAI but also have OAI AI diffused through its entire ecosystem (Azure, windows etc). Additionally, it may not even be just about profit. There are people at these big AI labs that believe what they are working on could change the trajectory of our species forever. And they maybe right.
