It's been so confusing since graduation 3 months ago knowing how most of Ai's upbringing and use has been for the worse, especially against artists, and yet everyone is either blind to it, ambivalent to it, or preaching gospel about it saying to "adapt or die." It's like living in Bizarro world where you know this is an awful technology but it feels like everyone is using it (aside from those who stand against it) and is pushing its narrative. I'm not denying times are changing and tech updates way too fast, but when I hear "embrace Ai" or "adapt or die" it reminds me of all the people online telling artists and designers to quit and give up what they've been doing and all they stand for, just give away our data and don't have a backbone. When you spoke up about it, tons of comments telling you to shut up and the same thing: "Just take it. Embrace Ai. Stop struggling." It just seems... gross. And a majority of my other college peers felt the same. Like either their forced to use it or just flat out didn't use because of how the data was trained and the corporate messaging it stood for. I really don't know what to do occupationally now. Everything seems so gross. I guess I might be in the "Die" category of "Adapt or Die". Maybe I could "Succeed Die trying". I really don't know. Uh I agree with previous podcasts tho about having a main skill and supporting it with sub skills, but most importantly as a designer to have the ability to problem solve, strategize, have a purpose for your designs other than just decoration.
