So this is a genuine question, that I'd like to be handled in good faith. What about generative AI or the ability for generative AI to search across the internet for meaningful learning? Or I guess in an easy example I can relate to: Mathematics. I'm working on studying Calculus 2. It's not in my degree, for reference, the only way I could take a calc 2 course is if I paid out of pocket and took a course that wouldn't earn anything towards my degree. I will typically ask generative AI to explain a concept to me, if the explanations I find are awkward or I can't follow them well. Similarly, I might see a good problem on a work sheet, try my hand at it, then ask generative AI what it thinks about it, or ask it to give me a step by step on how a certain problem is solved, and then ask if it can provide me a similar problem, which I work out myself on my notebook, then provide my answer to generative AI, and it can tell me where I was right or where I missed a step or made a mistake. I understand that there may be a significant negative view on generative AI, especially in academic settings, but what about for a 'good' use such as to genuinely learn, rather than use it to avoid studying or learning and end up with cognitive debt?
