I appreciate you showing that Gemini ad to make your point. As someone who does everything possible to avoid ads I genuinely had no idea how these tools are being marketed. I truly have a hard time thinking of usecases for ai image generation. I think this will be different from nft's though. nft's where not some new thing that could not have ever been done before. It created an interesting way of proving ownership over some identifier with no trust in another organization (which was marketed to be useful for real world contracts, ip ownership, etc), but in the end it doesn't really change anything because it's a (albeit, technically interesting challenge to solve and cool) solution to a problem that simply doesn't really exist. People leveraged hype around it to sell "ownership" (enforced by... no one) over virtual images through marketing schemes. Buying and selling ownership over intellectual property just already existed. AI image generation on the other hand is actually bringing something new to the table. Not saying it's some great new thing that people need in their life, but it's at least something that hasn't been done before. It's also unfortunately cheap and marketable. People have been leveraging ai + print on demand services + some scripts to generate products and list them online. Because of that I think we'll be seeing ai products around basically forever on from now. It's like slightly more advanced drop shipping. I think companies will stop marketing it so heavily eventually at least though and finding ways to inject it into products.
