The comparison with fire is interesting, but his deduction is not convincing. Humankind did not "invent" fire; fire has always been on earth - long before human evolution; man only started to use (and "make") fire for human purposes at one given point in history.
One can argue that AI is an human invention. But intelligence isn't. (Intelligence was always there; at one historic moment in time, mankind started to describe, conceptualize and even measure it.)
Conceptualising and using a thing is very different from initially inventing or conceiving it.
