Real problems look like this:
take this APL program which is executed via a process shell from a Windows forms application that queries data from SQL server and converts results into flat files used by the APL program to do a calculation for which there is no documentation anymore. Analyze the program and extract the underlying algorithm into plain english so we can understand how it works and decide if it needs to be modified to meet current needs or not. Then, convert the APL program into a more modern language. Also, replace the flat file command line interface with an API and a storage system that will allow us to use a more performant database. Convert the Windows forms application to a web UI.
While we are at it, let's store the source code in a gitlab repo and implement a CI/CD pipeline that builds all this and re-deploys it, complete with unit and integration tests.
It will take AI a little while to do all that without a LOT of help from human engineers. In fact, just breaking down the system into pieces that can be analyzed by an AI would be a challenge for current generative AI models to solve.
