Just because we "can" doesn't mean we "should." History will commend Elon for his proactive vocal caution and hopefully mankind will heed his accurate wisdom. We must all awaken that this technology is ALREADY HERE NOW and only accelerating in its pervasiveness and implementation in society -- it is no longer in the domain of hypothetical futurism we might one day see. For example, chatgpt is a household name and is being integrated into Microsoft Word (nothing can go wrong there!). There is a profound need to get these safeguards going IMMEDIATELY, to counteract the blinding pace & frankly blinding disregard of global academia, whose relentless agenda of arbitrary technical innovation has ignored common sense, humanity, and morality. I encourage all viewers, and especially fellow computer scientists, to have a renewed focus on ethical principles and take responsibility for the future the AI is already creating for us.
