An incredible essay; I am fully in agreement. One thing I will mention about "modern art", and this is coming from someone who hasn't ever liked most of it, is there's absolutely value in novelty. Maybe you or I putting an askew toilet up on a pedestal and calling it art won't grab any attention or win any awards, but the first person who does it might. I don't like Jackson Pollock, but at the same time I when I see a painting like that I think Jackson Pollock. And that's part of what makes art art. It has a stick-to-your-ribs-ness to it. I can't think of a single AI "art" artifact I've ever read, seen, or heard that has the slightest quality of that. It is utterly, utterly forgettable. You won't remember it before you even bother to click away.
