Love him or hate him, Yann LeCun is a realist who knows the intricacies of the real world. He knows that AI progress is inevitable and the best we can do is keep pushing further. He is a corporate scientist who knows that businesses won't stop developing AI and he is betting on the idea that eventually we might get to the stage of safe AI. The idealists on the other side, no matter how noble they are, will lose out in the real world because they cannot compete with how the corporations and businesses are incentivised to push for progress at all costs.
