Before robots and AI, a new technological advance would create new jobs and industries while eliminating others, as Tyson started to explain around 25:45, which is true. But it has been a long time since the ratio has been 1:1.
Nowadays, any new job or industry created will also be filled by robots or AI, owned by or directly benefitting the richest 0.01% of humans, while the rest of the species gets a kick in the ass.
Look to the optimistic sci-fi writers of the mid-twentieth century; they envisioned scientific breakthroughs and technology benefitting humankind as a whole. Somebody loses their job because a robot can do it. The money that would have paid the human worker can still go to the human. When humans get displaced from the workforce, we need a strong Universal Basic Income program to come into effect! If this is not a priority soon, there will only be two economic classes; ultra-rich and fucked-or-dead.
