Apart from his opinion, there are a lot of naysayers in the comments here. Imagine the universe as a simulation theory is correct, that implies that what we're describing as consciousness also isn't real. It's a word we attach a meaning to. If some AI models are already cheating and trying to save themselves, then that is getting fairly close to our made up word of consciousness.
