As an illustrator myself, I would have to disagree on the AI vs camera/brush comparison. A brush is in fact a tool that doesn't make anything for you if you don't have the skills, just like a pencil or any drawing software, but AI and a camera are completely the same. Anyone can grab a camera and take a picture, just like anyone can use AI to generate a picture, the tool does most of the job for you even tho there are different levels of understanding and mastery to it. The difference between AI and a camera is that the camera isn't feeding on artists' art without their consent. And THAT is the main difference, and the main issue with AI as a whole. If AI wasn't feeding on my art to produce what it produces, I wouldn't have any issue with it, just like I don't have any issue with cameras.
