So I am a disabled artist. I do enjoy using some free AI generators for coming up with ideas. I feel conflicted because of how AI is trained. For context I am a complete Aphant (as in Aphantasia). I am unable to imagine things. When I draw or sculpt, I don’t do it with something in mind. I draw a line and build off of it, it’s very “trust the process”. I build off of those lines and shapes until I find something I like. I can’t think of something and then draw it, and reference images are great, but when I use a reference, I usually end up just sketching the image. So when my friends ask me to digitally model something for them, I struggle a lot. They have something in mind and I can’t envision that. Generative AI helps me quickly come up with a concept that someone likes. Like what should this robot look like? What about a goblin? Or some other fantasy thing. I treat it as a tool to make an image that I can base my own art off of if I’m not just doodling or building off of lines. If that makes sense.
