They can understand English or other languages, including the nuances. They most definitely don't "understand" us. Thay would belt comprehension, which they aren't able to do. You ask one ChatGPT instance one thing, the other doesn't remember it.
Frankly until we crate a chat bot concerned with it being shutdown, we won't have one that understands anything.
