As impressive as LLM's can be, I'm not convinced that the existing models in any way imply that we're anywhere near AGI that doesn't hallucinate. It's a pretty fundamental leap to go from using a wealth of existing data to predict the next word, to then actually understanding the question that's been asked and knowing what next word is actually 'correct'.
I started out feeling as if ChatGPT type tools were more an improved/different kind of search engine than the birth of Skynet, and I still broadly feel that way.
