There's no doubt that the Tesla Autonomous Driving is very far away from where it needs to be to be able to work as an Autopilot.....
But Common Sense should tel Auto Drivers the following: if Autopilot in Airplanes operate in defined air corridors, with separation of at least one thousand feet in vertical and two thousand feet in horizontal whilst still requiring a competent Pilot to be attentive to and warning or alarm (TCAS, Terrain Alert, Sink Rate, Bank Angle, Cabin Pressure, etc.); WHY on Earth should we start reading a book while our vehicle is driving at 60 mph in a congested highway???
Undoubtedly there are pitfalls that Tesla, and the rest of the auto industry, NEED to attend and properly respond to families of people that died as a consequence of a car running in autonomous mode. But people also needs to understand the technology they are running.....let us STOP reading texts or watching movies while our vehicle is moving within 6 feet if other vehicles or pedestrians. ....
