Hello, I am part of the AI industry, and I think that this technology is here to stay and SHOULD stay. However, I don't condone the use of generating images with the specific intention of replicating a certain artists style, the same way I would not condone an artist trying to intentionally copy another artists style without their consent. It is the user, not the technology. I would be perfectly okay with an opt-in system, however, I don't believe that not having one is necessarily a bad thing either. It is worth mentioning that AI trained on artwork found on the internet do not internally store pieces of artwork, but instead analyzes visual patterns found throughout the artwork as data for image generation. In this way, I do in fact believe it is similar to how a human references artwork using their eyes. The 'human touch' you describe is imo something that AI will never match, at least not for a long time, and something that will be inherently valuable as real, hand made art. Models trained on very specific individual artists, and users specifically trying to replicate an existing artists artwork or art style is definitely possible and should be something easy to recognize and single out. But an AI user earnestly trying to create their own art using AI, even if that AI is trained on billions of other artists, cannot infringe on any copyrights, as the AI itself does not copy art, only patterns found throughout art, not to mention, even if it did, it would be highly transformative, unless intentionally not.
