I case absolutely everybody missed it, I did answer the question about whether an AI chess player "wants to win", and I also substantiated my answer... but it seems to have been deleted. So, if anyone wants to know and can't find my thorough answer, sorry about that. I tried. Anyway, the short answer is "they can". It's not a simple matter of yes they do or no they don't, because there are always factors involved.
