4:38 I feel your counter argument to "AI is learning the same way a human does" is a bit weak sauce, so I'm gonna help you out here. First of all, yes, humans learn (in part) by absorbing a lifetime of information, abstracting it in their minds, and synthesizing from that information when they make their own works. Except (1) If you ask a human to list all the sources of inspiration they've absorbed over a lifetime, they would be unable to do it. For GAI, though, they have a list. It's a freaking huge list, too huge for anyone to want to look at, but they have a list. They ain't just casually encountering art as they go about their daily lives (which GAI doesn't have). And (2) GAI can *only* pull from the things they've absorbed. They can't imagine something new, they can only synthesize from their dataset. The only new thing they add to the mix is literal static that they denoise. There's no style, no creativity, no... soul for lack of a better term. Just pure random extrapolation _within_ the dataset. A dataset that, again, was trained on a specific list of information.
