There’s a difference especially when it comes to the fact that one of these things is stealing from artists And the other is Y’know…. Making art AI art inherently steals from artists Normally to emulate someone’s style you need to view their art very often and work very hard to copy it And because you aren’t that person It’s almost always gonna be a bit different Have a bit of your own flavor mixed in And when you post it, it’ll be you posting something you worked hard on, even if it is meant to look like another persons drawing And most people who are literally attempting to copy a drawing will say somewhere what this drawing is based on or a copy of Either way It takes effort AI art doesn’t have any effort And it doesn’t have passion And it doesn’t say “hey btw totally copied this from this artist” It just looks Copies And smashes it together with a million other stolen bits and pieces It’s inherently theft Not if you make it yourself and train it on your own art or a willing participants art Then that AI is effectively an art piece in and of itself Cuz it took effort to create and train it But your average AI art generator It’s stealing that art It’s taking work so many people worked so hard on And it’s destroying it to make something new If I said “here, let me make you a sandwich” And then took the bread from someone else’s sandwich The meat from another persons And so on And I smashed it all together And said “there, a brand new sandwich- totally fresh!” You’d go “No, that was all those people’s sandwiches, and you just stole the bits of them and mashed them into this, and it’s NOT new or fresh, like 5 different people already had it”
