3:50 also, people misses the amount of code that never gets written because it would take too long and can’t be afforded. For example, I had to parse ugly production logs that consisted on one json object per log entry. Before I either came up with a Linux one liner that would help me, or configure some cloud solution to do the parsing. Now, I asked Claude to create a simple python script. I gave it some examples of other scripts we use for other things, to keep the code similar to what we have. In less than an hour, after some prompts, I had a Python command line tool that parsed each line, formatted it using colors, allowed me to filter, to dump the logs to a file, to select what fields to show, whether to show stack traces for error logs. This is not something I would have typically written, as we are always in a hurry and couldn’t afford it.
This made my life as a developer much easier.
