We have had this discussion before. The Tokugawa shogunate banned firearms because they made the Swordmaster obsolete. A peasant with 15 minutes of training became just as lethal a killer of men as samurai of 20 years of combat experience. Craftsmen off all kinds, especially in the metal- and woodworking industry have been put out of jobs in their chosen vocation thanks to machines that automated them away. Farmers who didn't start using machines were bought up by those that did. Now less than 5% of a population of any given country actually produce food for the other 95%. Not even 300 years ago the majority of the population got their employment from food production. Now machines are coming for the artist. And? Picture generating algorithms have been around for at least a decade. The only thing that changed is that they have reached a point of actually being good and went mainstream. I'm not one of those "AI Bros", my job uses AI as an organizing tool for our database. Sorting old documents and contracts that earlier we had to sort manually. That's what I use ai for, a glorified filing cabinet. I'm inherently distrustful of new technology but I don't see a problem here. All I can say is: Don't worry artists, you aren't really in danger. Commissions are not going to disappear. All AI will achieve is that corporate Art will become more standardized. The new simplyfied logos of different companies already look ai generated and soulless. And that's not gonna change with better AI. What might happen is that now there will be an even bigger barrier to entry for the arts. If you can't draw better than an AI you won't get commissions. But the people who are... They'll have enough work. And wealthier costumers.
