I'm glad to finally watch a video from a creative person that can appreciate the creative ways these tools can help everyone alive in the industry today.
Remember when DreamWeaver came out and people were like "there wont be any more developers! ooh nooo!! we're gonna lose our jobs!!"
Remember when Motion Capture came out and people were like "they wont need 3D animators anymore!!! OOH NOOO!!! We're gonna lose our jobs!!!"
Remember when CMS websites and App Builders started popping up and people were like "Oh No!! They wont need app and web developers any more!! We're gonna lose our jobs!!!"
Heck... remember when PHOTOSHOP came out, and people were like "that's not real art.... we're gonna lose our jobs!!"
Humans have such short memories...
Guys, all these things did was create a different way of doing the same job.
Just like Mocaps created a new TYPE of job, AI Art will create a new type of job for artists being born today. In 20 years "AI art cleanup" will be a job, just like "Mocap cleanup" is a job today.
"But ChatGPT is writing code now!"... yea, it's writing spaghetti code. Which is fine for quick tools, prototypes, indie games and small projects.
But you don't build your house on a pile of mud. Professional industry standard video games, websites, applications and software still need engineers and architects.
All those little script kiddies will be able to freelance simple projects; and companies will learn really quick that "cheap labor" isn't sustainable when they have an entire staff of entry devs and bots that can't fix anything when it's broken.
"But it creates 3D now!!!" ... again, this is fine for small projects. But if you don't have actual 3D artist who know how to optimize the 3D and separate it into pieces that can be animated... then all you have is a static blob.
"But people won't hire me because they can just use AI art!" .. then adapt! Offer your skills to clean up AI art or improve on it's generated concepts. AI usually only draws a portrait from the shoulders up. What about the torso? Is the person wearing pants or a skirt? What shoes are they wearing? If they're even wearing shoes. These are all pieces of the picture that don't exist. Your creativity isn't at jeopardy, it's just shifted.
Imagine how much more productive you can be if you're a freelancer. A customer gives you a concept. You can sit with them and generate AI art so they can visibly see their concept. Then you spend a day or two recreating the pieces of the puzzle they wanted in your own art style. This is an hour with the bot and a few days of art. Whereas before it might have taken you 2-3 days to come up with a concept only for the customer to say "nah.. I don't like that".. and the freelance work takes weeks. So you only have 3 customers a month. Well now you can potentially have 20 customers a month.
"But they're stealing our art!!!!" - Yea this is the only one I actually agree with is pretty shitty. But steps are being taken right now to prevent this kind of stuff.
