This maybe just from my own personal experience staffing at a different convention, but I highly doubt NYC would've been beholden to whatever contract was signed if their terms explicitly state that the artists at the artist alley are supposed to provide their own artwork. If anything they could've at least had him take down anything they suspected being made of Gen AI and unable to verify that it was not. Again this is my own two cents from staffing at a convention, but the one I staff at is also very staunchly against AI and it's possible NYC had not updated their contracts/terms to exclude Gen Ai works.
