If our goal is to create an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) better than us, doing science for us, so perfect that it eliminates all human flaws in the process. Humanity’s greatest competitive advantage will be our imperfections. Hunger is a flaw—yet from it came agriculture, cuisine, ritual, and culture. Fear is a flaw—yet from it came caution, memory, and foresight. Pain is a flaw—yet without it, learning collapses. Desire is a flaw—yet without it, there is no direction. We did not invent tools because we were complete. We invented them because we were lacking. A “perfect” AGI lacks imperfections, and humans can be useful assets. From an evolutionary perspective, flaws are not bugs. They are gradient signals—the slopes along which intelligence moves. And here’s the critical paradox: A system that eliminates all flaws must also eliminate the conditions under which intelligence adapts. So, perfection can be a built-in "flaw" for AGI and human harmony. The trouble is that the development is a process, not an instant. The adaptation of AI in our society can move back and forth, fixing certain issues while creating new ones along the way, forever approaching perfection without ever reaching it, while steadily accumulating the probability of a catastrophic failure occurring at some point.
