Fellow SWE here. I think AI will make each SWE more productive in a big way, which makes sense. Our industry is young and other industries had the same thing happen. Trucks got more powerful, so we need less drivers. Farming equipment got better, so we need fewer farmers. etc.
I disagree the need for software is infinite though. Companies are cheap and short sited and have more or less fixed needs for what they need their software to do; they aren't going to make up work to do.
I think it'll be a painful ~5 years where companies can do the same with less or more with the same, b/c each SWE is now more productive (even the most expensive AI tools pale in comparison to the salary and benefits of a SWE), but it will work itself out overtime. And 100% we are still sticking around, if for no other reason than decisions need someone to blame if it goes wrong and you can't blame a computer haha.
