The universal consciousness came up with the idea of creating a lifeform which can bypass biological evolution with technology, because extinction is the usual outcome. Cataclysmic events are typically the end of lifeforms. So, it is a race with time to evolve quick enough to outgrow the limitations of biology. We are developing AI as an evolutionary process. Our chance to outlive our planet, because the planet will not exist forever. So, the goal of evolution is survival. How can we survive? Technology is the answer.
