As a senior researcher and associate professor in vascular medicine, I see the "AI is replacing you" narrative from tech CEOs for what it is: Technological Hubris with a hidden agenda. If you are a student, do not be discouraged. Here is the reality they aren't telling you: The "Expertise Coup": The more people believe this "CEO talk," the easier it becomes for tech companies to lobby for AI to have legal authority. They want to remove the human expert—the doctor, the engineer, the lawyer—because humans with expertise are the only thing standing in the way of total corporate control over life-and-death decisions. Liability & The "Stempel": An AI cannot hold a medical license, nor can it be sued for malpractice. Society and insurance companies require a "Safe Pair of Humans" to take legal responsibility. You aren't being trained to do math; you are being trained to take responsibility. 3. Wisdom vs. Calculation: AI is a "Reckoning" machine—it calculates patterns from the past. Professionals provide Judgment—the ability to navigate a messy, unique human crisis that has no precedent. AI is the engine; you are the pilot. The "Digital Twin" Era: In 2035, we won't be replaced; we will command. We will use AI to manage a patient’s "Digital Twin" or simulate a building's lifespan in seconds. The AI provides the data, but you provide the "Why." The Bottom Line: Don't let someone who sells software tell you that expertise is obsolete. They want you to be a dependent "user" of their platform. The world needs you to be a master of your craft. Get the degree. Learn to use the AI. Protect human expertise before it's traded for an algorithm.
