AI has made it much easier for me as a teacher to individualise learning—creating texts that target each student’s specific areas of need, aligned with both assessment data and their personal interests. These texts also include comprehension questions designed to strengthen weaker skills. But interestingly, many students resist this kind of tailored learning. They often say they’d rather just read a book, even when the AI-generated material reflects their own interests. The contradiction is telling: while the personalised texts push them to think more deeply, sometimes students simply want the comfort and flow of reading without that extra challenge. It’s a reminder that effective learning isn’t just about personalisation—it’s also about balancing rigour with enjoyment.
