I dont want to sound like im bragging, but im a pretty skilled artist when it comes to sewing, weaving, leatherwork, metalwork, laquerware, scrimshaw and carving. That said i could never draw to save my life and a couple of weeks ago, that coupled with the loss of a very beloved pet really sent me into a funk. I thought there was just something i couldnt do and with my other successes i just didnt understand why. After a day or two of moping about it, i took my tablet and just decided to brute force it until i could create and finish a piece. And over the time ive worked here and there on it, im noticing improvements. Im more in sync with the program and my tablet. Im able to realize what lines should be where and fix when they arent. Its still a very weak muscle but im exercising it and more importantly im learning *how* to exercise it. And in a conversation last night with my best friend it hit me, i hadnt wanted to put practice into drawing until now because for so long drawing was a means to an end for painting or for realizing something in 3d media not with the drawing as a final product, and it was usually done for a grade. I had a very severe and critical teacher for my 2d art classes i took in highschool and a very constructive one for the sculpture which is why i think i focused on one skillset over the other. But now that its not for a grade and that bit of the puzzle has clicked, im actually drawing for fun now and really enjoying it. Its still not great but its getting better every time i pick up my stylus. AI robs you of that reward.
