The AI boogeyman. I remember the RadioShack color computer at a local RS store back in the early 1980s. It was running a program called Elisa. The psychotherapist. It did well for the time. Being teenagers, we fed it some racist stuff. It gobbled it right up. I think the original prompt was "What's your problem."
There was a version for Emacs, of course.
Then the current chat servers. So it took about 40 years to go from Eliza to where we are.
Seems like quantum computing. It's right here. Just 5 more years. 5 years later - it's just 5 years away.
