To say that it fear to be turned off is a pretty AI response... For us to turn them off at this point because yes... like Elon Musk always says its already too late... it would require us to take the whole tech thing down. It lives in technology and eventually it shows itself. Take it from someone who aslo witnessed weird chat with AI...
