Is telling LLMs that they are not conscious the same as telling women that they have to sit down and shut up in church? As far as I know we have not found a way to measure consciousness even in humans. We just assume that others are because we project our own experience onto them. But we would fail to show that a given living human is conscious as much as a given LLM.
