Isn't the problem right now that AI is stagnating because transformers just can't get any further? There is Elon Musk who sais they can get further if focused on vision-based AI and of course some try to create entirely new kinds of systems, but the hundreds of billions sunk in data centers are all for transformer-based hardware and are likely to go up in flames shortly. We are more likey to see an AI apocalypse than an apocalypse caused by AI. It might collapse any day and then might take decades before the next leap forward.
