If enough people rebel against using AI services, beginning with automated recordings being used to answer the phone, things may change. Every time I call the pharmacist, I get options that don't apply to me, and I waste a lot of time talking to a machine before I can be connected to a live person. It happens every single time. I was told by a pharmacist to repeatedly ask to speak to a representative and not say anything else. It's not just with the pharmacist. Most places I call use an automated system to answer the phone. Some have up to ten options that don't apply to the reason I call; so I pick a random number and hope to get connected with a human being. When I finally get a human, they are not trained on what to do and will connect me with the wrong person. This can continue until you're back to square one. It can take hours or even days to make a simple phone call. It's a time-consuming, frustrating experience. Many people have had similar negative experiences and could be persuaded to sign a petition and designate a consumer help line to register complaints about this issue. This type of stress is not healthy and could contribute to mental health issues. If I'm asked to rate my experience, there is no option to rate their answering service. They only ask to rate the representative and the overall service.
