Taylor, it's almost entirely black n brown people trying to point out how they feel like there's a racist component, and entirely white people dismissing it. Idk, look at my pic, I'm snow white, but I think we need to read the room on this one.
do people really view big tech as literally just their physical devices? big pharma is not physical pills, it's companies, it's people. nobody seems confused about the 2nd case.
Also, if it is conceivable that future AI systems achieve some sort of consciousness, then it is conceivable that it will need rights. The argument about people still needing rights is of course persuasive, but looking at it realistically, the same programmers, techs, and researchers who would be engaged in this AI research are not at all likely to have otherwise been engaged with the expansion of human rights. Having them maintain operations within their area of expertise may well be the best thing we could have them do. Already, they seem like people amenable to voting in favor of human rights, i think these are allies.
