All estimates and any even cursory look at what's actually happening shows that AI is almost exclusively going to take white collar jobs, not low income jobs.
There will be some areas like drivers that are pretty big, maybe five million jobs, but that might also enable workers without cars or licenses to get to and from work more cheaply - maybe - depends on greed levels, etc. but you could imagine even governments offering their own driverless electric transport, which if charged using solar could be run with really, really low operating costs.
Certainly eventually you got robotics coming, but not for a while because it's too expensive and resource intensive and also creating exteriors robots that operate in the real world is very expensive and in some ways not even possible yet - robots can injure people, damage things.
The number one job that's going to be decimated by AI is software engineering and computer programming because historically, new technologies are first used most extensively in the industry that invented them and also because software development is uniquely suited to AI among other things because in many ways it's possible for AI to sort of check it's work by running code, debugging it, etc.
What's likely in the short term is maybe 80 million white collar jobs gone over five to ten years - software developers, accountants, call support, attorneys, analysts administrative support, most jobs where a person does most work while staring at a computer screen or talking on the phone. Interestingly, this might include writers, teachers, musicians, other artists. It may include a lot of TV, movie and other media production. But that's not going to be most of the jobs lost.
AI isn't coming for working class jobs until after the entire society is remade into a tech dystopia - could be 15 or 20 years.
In the interim, it is likely that wages rise for those jobs that can't be automated with construction and nursing paying like double what accountants get, maybe triple. People who can make things and do things - skilled workers who operate in the real world - they are going to be in demand.
I like Sanders, but I think he's intentionally misrepresenting what's going on to try to alarm his base. The real people who are totally screwed are recent college graduates focused on areas of work likely to be automated. Even that group wants to consider itself as not part of the working class, but fighting for the working class... like the permanently unemployable class fighting for the disenfranchised construction workers who are actually mostly clearing $100K and getting benefits and more work than they can handle.
