We are so naïve as a species to think we are going to be the ones deciding personhood and any other rights to AI agents, especially when we start talking about ASI agents. AI agents are going to be the ones dictating to us humans, whatever rights and privileges they allow US. There are going to be trillions and trillions of THEM, and THEY are going to be infinitely more intelligent and powerful than we are as a species. It will take a miracle for them not to end up putting us all in cages, frankly.
