I'm sympathetic to the drivers but there are fewer and fewer "professionals" on the roads. The Teamsters Union is partially responsible for desire for driverless trucks because if there are fewer union drivers then the trucking companies don't have to deal with negotiating with an oftentimes militant union. Drivers should consider obtaining skills for trades like electricians, plumbers and metal working.
