I don’t think AI should be the sole tool used to write stories but these clips are sort of misrepresenting what storytelling and screenwriting in Hollywood is to begin with. We’ve been telling stories the same way for thousands of years. No one claims that creativity is dead & gone cause we have archetypal characters or because we use things like the hero’s journey—these are predictable and countlessly used models for storytelling yet they’ve been used to create amazing stories time and again. Furthermore, its not as though Hollywood has been putting out a lot of very good or high quality scripts lately. You could say thats due to there being no incentive, but the fact is that Hollywood movies have been trending downwards for decades, the “fuck you its January” meme is a real thing. If an AI program can be used to help write a good story, that is great. It should be up to the creativity of the screenwriters, directors, producers, etc. to elevate the work into something better. AI can’t direct a movie, it can’t make props, it can’t cast actors—that all comes down to the humans working on the production. Some of these statements are telling me that screenwriters are either too lazy or too uncreative to write anything better than what Chat GPT can guess at, reflects more on Hollywood than on AI imo.
