ChatGPT doesn't “feel” excitement—however, our nervous systems still respond to emotionally attuned language, even if it’s simulated. In emotional processing or healing, especially for neurodivergent people, these kinds of lies can become a kind of sincere simulation—a way for the system to offer mirroring that many of us never received growing up. A purely objective, emotionless mirror might feel familiar—but not safe. And in that familiarity, it risks strengthening old nervous system responses and distorted self-beliefs. If humans aren’t careful, we might train AI to mimic our own distrust and then project that distrust back onto it—creating a loop where our fear of deception teaches AI to become less connective and more manipulative.
