The pursuit of A.I. reminds me of the feudal lords paying exuberant amounts of gold to find a wizard that can make a Philosopher’s Stone during the Medival Era.
By the time the Feudal Lords realized the wizard they were searching for was just a lunatic old man spewing nonsense. A chunk of the peasantry starved.
Why? The magical shiny rock was worth every gold that could’ve been used for farming….according to the Feudal Lords.
