Comment tone/background: I both use ai for prototype art, and also have artist friends, and have done art. I hate the current state of ai, the ai community, and the response to them. I'm center of the road on this, with a heavy leaning TOWARD the artists. These are all great points. I love your style and videos, and 100% am behind artists not having their art stolen for training. I think I agree with almost everything in the video though I think either you're talking about a usage of ai art that is specific to art as a final product, or you're missing that some art is a component of a larger art (videogames). I think the "AI Enables disabled artists" is a just absolute hollow take at best and ablest at worst. I think the "it's inspired not stealing" argument is shot down much easier and more pragmatically by that the outcome isn't what people are talking about when they say stealing, it's the training data, a component of the commercial product. In the same way that I can't just use megaman in my games, they shouldn't be able to use unlicensed art in their models. On the reference note, either I'm not understanding that people actually mean this genuinely, or you're hearing reference as a technical artistic term, and not in the vague way it's used (I'm not in these conversations, this was just my impression), either way, just google for references idk this seems like the weakest argument for ai art frankly. I think it's not possible to stop AI from being broadly used, but it ABSOLUTELY can be regulated and should be. The projects for setting up self hosted AI and all that are as accessable as block chain technology (another abused and wasted technology that somehow got wrapped up in money) so it's not going away. It's also not going to replace artists, and people REALLY need to stop pretending this thing is a hammer and everything is a nail in the ai community. It's a slop generator, and that's fine. Sometimes you need slop. It's not going to make masterpieces, or anything worth paying for. Will the bubble burst like you say? 100%, will it go away/stop? No. I do wish however we could move out of the hard black and white conversation where both sides refuse to budge an inch so we could have a nuanced conversation about art in videogames. Especially for prototype projects. For people with no budget, and no interest in doing art, ai is a way better resource to get something 'close enough' that makes working on a project not feel like garbage while saving the time/money of getting the art. If we weren't using ai they were using google image searches and just grabbing whatever which was actually copywrite protected. None of those projects saw the light of day in my case and they won't until both the ai companies finally stop being evil about their data sets, AND the art/gaming community stop flaying people alive for daring to look at this new miracle tool as if they were literally drowning artists by hand. I firmly believe we should have laws that require releasing the training sets, and requiring that sources be removed that they don't have explicit permission to use for training (or open license stuff). AI Models should be hard to make, regulated, and if that makes them expensive to build or bad then tough nuts. Until that happens AI cannot be used for hobby projects that have any shot of survival, and frankly the ai community won't be getting any respect until they put in any effort to understand that if you can't use a logo for commercial purposes, then using the logo in training data for your commercial product is the same thing. There will always be slop, ai might be inevitable, but both sides just telling the other to don't is getting us nowhere and in so doing the ai isn't actually getting pushed back against it feels like.
