Sorry, I have to disagree with you on your analogy of a camera/brush. Let's unpack: Let me preface this by saying I have been an artist all my life, and I own/operate a graphic design shop - so I know a thing or two. Ok, so you are correct in saying that a brush or camera does not produce art on it's own, but then.... neither does MidJourney. Midjourney will only produce an output if PROMPTED to do so, and therein lies where "artistry" hides -- the "AI artist" (for lack of a better term) must still be able to visualize their concept and then describe it in detail for the AI to interpolate. Now that we've clarified that, let's look at the history of "art" and how technology has affected it over the years... Before there were brushes & paints, we used dyes made from blood and our fingers. So if we look at it from your logic, the advent of brushes and paints is "not true art" because the "artist" is now using tools that make the process more efficient. Then there was the advent of the computer and programs like MS Paint and Photoshop. So is this not "true art" either? Because now the "artist" is using a keyboard & mouse with digital tools, not real brushes and paints. Why does an original art piece created in PShop get a pass, but not an AI generated piece? PShop's filters and tools have made the process of color manipulation, correcting mistakes, etc far more streamlined than any hands-on process. So is that "cheating?" Now we get to AI-generated art, which is just the next evolutionary step in how we produce art. Just as people still paint with their fingers, the existence of AI art is not going to render PShop or painting obsolete. As the chap says, it is a TOOL, just like the paintbrush.
