As an artist myself, I don’t really hate AI art that much. I see it as an asset instead (I’ll explain more later). Like the facts I heard of why people hate it I can’t really see in the same light. For example the stealing peoples’ art style. Artist teach other artists to look at other artists art style that they are inspired by and merge those features they like in different art styles to create their own. And this applies to most artist art styles now. Taking bits and pieces of others art style features that you like and applying it to your own art. Essentially that what the AI art generator is doing. And whenever you watch those “Trying to draw in other artist art style” videos, you see that they can resemble it but it’s never perfect because, as known, no artist can draw another artists art style to a T because art styles are unique to the artist. That applies with the AI art in my eyes as well. It’s never perfect. Then as for the AI “artists”, with or without AI art, people still stole art regardless.
So why do I see it as an asset? As the AI generator isn’t perfect, people are still going to go to real people who can actually understand their requirements. So as I’ve seen most saying “Ai Art is putting real artist out of business” doesn’t really seem true in my eyes. On top of why I see it as an asset is to help with artblock. That’s what I used it for. Whenever I was stumped on what to draw and getting frustrated, it came in handy. Yes there’s Pinterest board and all, but sometimes you can’t get exactly what you’re looking for. So being to generate those things you’re looking for to at least have a bit of a better understanding, I find helpful. Another way, character design. It can generate some really well thought of designs that aren’t stolen. That being said, people who want to commission artwork but don’t know how to get references for it, can use the AI art so it can help real artist. A lot of people don’t commission because they don’t have a good reference sheet yet, so I feel like it can a contributing to more customers for real artist. So essentially, or overall, my thought on AI art is that it’s like another asset like Pinterest boards and all. I get AND understand why some artist are really troubled by it, but simply looking on the outside of it, and looking on the inside it can be beneficial for artists instead of like the “downfall” as I’ve been seeing some say.
