It's a tool. You prompt it to respond however you wish and it clearly has been prompted by the way it's replying.
Zane studied computer science so he'd know exactly how to prompt ChatGPT.
We'd need to see the prompts, not just the transcripts to gain a clearer picture.
I'm pretty sure even earlier versions of ChatGPT if un-prompted would start giving you advice on who you could talk to if you're having these kinds of thoughts but if you prompt it not to then it won't.
If you hit your thumb with a hammer do you sue the hammer makers? Sadly I think the answer to this question in this day & age is "Yes if it's possible".
